Trees are often overlooked. Some have rubbish at their feet, or the scars of the many names carved on them, even barbed wires running through their flesh. Others in cities are left to find their place between slabs of concrete, just tolerated. Yet trees are amongst the most ancient of life forms. They provide us with the oxygen we need, and we won’t survive without them. Trees offered us the warmth of wood fires in Lapland, and the coolness of their shade in Southern France. As a species, we have much to learn from them.
